My Letter to the community

Updated: Apr 22

To my dear friends in the therapist community,

Welcome to my soul project, Rethink Today.

Being a child therapist has been the most incredible, humbling, and transformative experience of my life. How lucky am I to play, connect, and hold space for children as they navigate their healing journey? As therapists, we carry the weight of our young clients’ experiences, yet we continue to hold hope—hope for attuned families, for healing communities, and for a future built on connection and understanding.

As I have grown in my career, life has shaped me in ways that now deeply influence my work. I have walked parallel paths with many of my clients—grieving the loss of my mother to dementia, becoming a caregiver for my father as he battles cancer, embracing motherhood later in life while balancing career shifts, and supporting my community through devastating wildfires, even as I faced them myself.

These experiences have profoundly changed how I see therapy. Now, more than ever, I recognize that breaking generational cycles, fostering connection, and supporting families in attunement with one another is at the core of lasting change. While we often believe these skills are innate, they are, in reality, shaped by the generations before us—passed down, for better or for worse.

Just as children and families need support, so do the clinicians stepping into this work. I have found that new therapists, much like the clients they serve, thrive when they are given the right tools, guidance, and community. Supporting the next generation of therapists means compounding the impact we can make on the future. And from that belief, Rethink Today was born.

This is more than a project—it’s a movement. A space to honor the past, rethink traditional approaches, and innovate the future of therapy. If you're here, it means you, too, are part of this journey. And I am so grateful to walk it with you.

With my gratitude,

Christy Livingston
